Aprils Fool.
April 3, 2008 by kaybaylor
I may be a day late and a dollar short, (since April fools day was 2 days ago.)
But the bible has alot to say about fools, those who lack common sense. So I typed in “fools” in biblegateway.com and was astounded at how many had a similar theme: the tongue, or ones words.
It was more than slightly convicting because one of the hardest things for me to take control of in my life is my tongue. It may be the gift of gab or the curse of chatter, but either way I am constantly reminding myself ”when words are many sin is not absent” or “May the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable in your sight.”
To be honest, I don’t want to be a fool, nor look like one. So let me cease this chatter and let the scripture speak for itself:
Enjoy (Gods word):
Psalm 14:1
The fool says in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good. Psalm 74:22
Rise up, O God, and defend your cause; remember how fools mock you all day long.Proverbs 10:8
The wise in heart accept commands, but a chattering fool comes to ruin.
Proverbs 10:14
Wise men store up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool invites ruin.
Proverbs 10:18
He who conceals his hatred has lying lips, and whoever spreads slander is a fool.
Proverbs 10:21
The lips of the righteous nourish many, but fools die for lack of judgment.
Proverbs 12:23
A prudent man keeps his knowledge to himself, but the heart of fools blurts out folly.
Proverbs 14:3
A fool’s talk brings a rod to his back, but the lips of the wise protect them.
Proverbs 14:7
Stay away from a foolish man, for you will not find knowledge on his lips.
Proverbs 14:9
Fools mock at making amends for sin, but goodwill is found among the upright.
Proverbs 15:2
The tongue of the wise commends knowledge, but the mouth of the fool gushes folly.Proverbs 15:7
The lips of the wise spread knowledge; not so the hearts of fools.Proverbs 15:14
The discerning heart seeks knowledge, but the mouth of a fool feeds on folly.
Proverbs 17:7
Arrogant lips are unsuited to a fool— how much worse lying lips to a ruler!
Proverbs 17:28
Even a fool is thought wise if he keeps silent, and discerning if he holds his tongue.
Proverbs 18:2
A fool finds no pleasure in understanding but delights in airing his own opinions.
Proverbs 18:6
A fool’s lips bring him strife, and his mouth invites a beating.
Proverbs 18:7
A fool’s mouth is his undoing, and his lips are a snare to his soul.
Proverbs 19:1
Better a poor man whose walk is blameless than a fool whose lips are perverse.
Ecclesiastes 10:12
Words from a wise man’s mouth are gracious, but a fool is consumed by his own lips.
These are only a few.
But let me encourage you to dedicate your speech to God. Let Him guide your tongue.
For me, I’m going to let mine be still and know that he is God.
