Jesus: My anti drug?
May 9, 2008 by kaybaylor
I was talking to a kid who wanted to become a christian, but I really didn’t think he was getting it.
I asked him: “What does it mean to be a christian?”
He gave the typical answer that Jesus becomes the savior of your life and you do what the bible says.
Close….
“Why do people become Christians?”
“Umm… well Uh,” he fumbled… “Like if someone is a drug addict or something, and they cant stop. They can become a christian.”
Insert palm of hand to forehead.
Needless to say, neither of us were ready for me to lead him in the sinners prayer. And as comical as it is… how many people fall into the sentimental Christianity.
It seems to be a growing christian trend in the church to share stories of Gods deliverance and happy feel good quotes like “Dont tell God how big the storm is.. tell the storm how big your God is.” And we all sit in church with an appeased mood and clap like were in a golf tournament. “That was nice” we say as we leave the service. Golf tournaments are boring and unpleasently pastel.
Dont get me wrong, its encouraging to hear how God has worked in other peoples lives. But how God has worked in another mans life is not a promise that he will work in ours.
And the “God loves the Hell out of you” kind of quotes are cute and quirky- but its not alive and active like scripture. The word of God is powerful. There is no substitute.
We are suppose to be an aroma pleasing to God in the sight of man.
We are suppose to be the salt of the earth… Not the sentimental sugar.
Sugar may smell nice to man, but its not the pleasing aroma required of us before God.
Im afraid that our testimonies and christian phrases are beginning to take the place of the word of God. When the world looks at us… what are they going to see?
What are your thoughts??

I dont understand Pingbacks… and why do they say that my name is andy?
I’ve got to agree on this one. As wonderful it is to hear how God has moved in someone’s life, He isn’t a genie. I’m glad He isn’t. Not because I understand why, but the fact that He chooses not to be, well, I accept that He isn’t for a reason that is good….I’m rambling. I should probably delete that part but I won’t.
But what I’m trying to say is that, we as Christians tend to hate when people make God look small and insignifigant, and rightly so, but we don’t stand up to people who make God their own version of signifigant. Just because something looks good to us, that doesn’t mean it is God’s will, and that He is just aching to do it.
If all of the people in the world who are blind are still blind even after we proclaim God as a healer of the blind, that doesn’t mean God is somehow weak. It is not His will. Anything apart from His will would be Him lowering Himself to our own expectations of what would make a great and remarkable God.
I am so tired, and should not be online anymore. So if that made you mad or confused instead of reassured, a thousand pardons.

Haha, pingbacks. You know that when you write a post you can choose to allow pingbacks or not. It’s toward the bottom of the page.
Yeah, the quotes, one-liners, and Christian sayings can get a little old. But it’s all good.
Anyway you sound a lot like me a couple years ago. I would have said something to the same effect—that we should focus more on the Word. Trouble is, try talking to someone about the Word when they don’t understand it, nor want to. They want to see proof. Not televangelist healing people proof, but genuine examples of God’s work, rather than words on a page.
I understand what you’re trying to say, but in my opinion, there’s nothing wrong with sharing, dwelling, or talking about testimonies of God’s work in our lives. It’s a good thing. On a believer-to-believer level it shows us how awesome God is, and gives us chances to praise God and rejoice.
On a believer-to-the-world level, it’s cool, because that’s what the world wants to see. They want to see something different, a change, some evidence of God’s work. In the Bible, people always asked for a sign.
When God is gracious enough do something awesome in our lives, we should dwell on it, because it’s good for us spiritually, and a great witnessing tool.
These are great thoughts to be pondered upon,
thoughts that change your life.
God inspired? I hope so
The Word of God be replaced? Nah, Just as the people would actually try to replace God with little idols, they (or we) will be unable to replace God.
The Word of God is so powerful, I Love it!
this verse confims what I am trying to say,
Isaiah 55:10
“As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater,
[11] So is the Word that goes from my mouth: it will not return to me empty, but will accomplish what I desire and achieve the purpose for which I sent it.
ooo.. I am in one of those writing moods
LOL God does Love you, and all the hell within you has to move out!!
Keep examining yourself gal, and keep examinig Gods Word, that you always may grow
Love you,
P.s. Pingbacks?? LOL
